Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen

ocay, i'm back in business... well, i estimate 2 weeks long this time... but lets get down to business... 1st up, Transformers: ROTF of course...

good movie... i loved it, perfect popcorn movie... a lot of positives as well in my opinion... there were many robots... thts something good considering the fact its Transformers... action sequences were awesome as well... good fight scenes, especially with OP fighting 3 Decepticons, n arguably the 3 best Decepticons in the movie, Megatron, Starscream, n Blackout... n he kick'd their ass until Megatron decided to kill OP the chicken way, the backstab... other good fight scene is Bumblebee against Ravage n Rampage... both fight scenes were fantabulous...

music in the movie were awesome n cool... LP did an awesome job in New Divide... i feel its more upbeat than the last 1... n then they took The Fray's Never Say Never n thts cool... its a nice song... n oso Green Day's 21 Guns... so awesome... wat else... FX was fantastic as well, as usual... miles better than Wolverine... n i like the fact tht Michael Bay like to slo-mo some parts of the movie, i think it give a very dramatc edge to the movie... n oso some scenes, the camera angles, i think its very suitable... its not very super artistic but its still fits... i like tht... oh not 4getting the humour... way alot of humour in this one... they got a laughable script... in terms of acting, it wasnt the best of the best but it was still pretty good... good enough to count it as a positive imo... i thought the characters were tru to the previous movie...

of course, all movies will have their low points as well... in ROTF i think the few obvious ones r the plot holes, bot over kill n character build-up... the were a few plot holes in this one n well, honestly, the plot overall isnt as good as the 1st... wat else, the bot over kill... while its cool tht this 1 has more robots than the 1st, it was a major overkill of bots, too many, made the last battle in Egypt kinda hard to follow n concentrate... n then characters as well... too many robots until there isnt time for some of the other robots... imo, i thought Jolt n Sideswipe shouldve gotten more screen time really... this movie only OP, Bumblebee, Megatron, n Starscream had the most screen time... not even The Fallen... i mean, look at Sideways, he was only in the movie for 5 mins, n he was an Audi TT... c'mon, at least a few more 5-mins scenes...

Mudflap n Skids imo had too much screen time considering the fact tht they're not really the main characters n they got to fight Devastator... a little "wat the..." for me... anyways, another problem was tht some of the characters just suddenly disappear'd from the final battle... like Skids n Mudflap... they were fighting Devastator then all of a sudden we don see them anymore... n like Bumblebee, after defeating Rampage n Ravage i would assume tht he will join the bigger battle n help out but we don see him anymore until Sam nearly died... another point is tht Michael Bay managed to make the audience feel for some of the characters... when OP died every1, i can see in their expressions n the loud "wat the F...", tht they were so devastated... n then when he was resurrect'd as well...

then there r some stuff tht was neither here nor there, meaning it wasnt necessary but it didnt hurt the movie as well... Leo Spitz, the "sidekick"... well, like some ppl say, he wasnt a necessity, in fact he shouldnt even have been in the movie but imo, i thought it was not a biggy bcos he did provide most of the humour in the movie n every1 in the movie enjoy'd him... the part where Wheelie hump'd Mikaela's leg was oso unnecessary but like i said, it provided th humour...

there r oso some parts tht i mite change if i can... the 2 most important 1s r the fight scenes n the screen time for some of the robots... both comes hand in hand... the few robots tht i thought should have more time were Jolt, Sideswipe, The Fallen, n Sideways... i thought they were awesome characters... in fact, the final battle, Sideswipe n/or Jolt, i felt should been with the Twins fighting Devastator... tht'd be so cool... i mean, Jolt practically wasnt in the movie n Sideswipe only had wat, 5 mins of major screen time (so awesome, the 1 where he slices Sideways into 2) n the rest r just short takes???... in fact, sorry didnt mention this 2, Ratchet n Ironhide... c'mon, they're the originals from the 1st movie... they shouldve had more time as well... The Fallen, being such a major character in the movie n he is the whole point of the movie (Revenge of THE FALLEN?)... he couldve had a more major role imo...

anyways... overall, the movie definitely didnt lose its WOW! factor bcos every1 in the movie, n i watch'd it thrice, we're making hell lot of noise when they saw OP resurrect n when he merge with Jetfire... tht was awesome... a little minor setbacks but nothing tht should kill the mood... i mean the number speaks for itself, 813million so far... so yea, i rate it a 7.3-7.5/10...

Changeling

Christine Collins (Angeline Jolie) plays a mother in the 1930s when women were not given much of a voice and when corruption was rampant (whether or not society has evolved since then, we shall leave that for another day). Her son goes missing, but a few months later, he's brought back to her. One catch though - that's not her son. The story may bring about themes of justice, the fight against corruption as well as the underempowerment of women back in the day but I think it circles around one thing - a mother's love for her child.

The film is based on a true story and ties in with the (DON'T click if you haven't watched Changeling and intend to) Wineville Chicken Coop Murders. I have never heard of this so when I saw it in the show and realised it really happened, I was bloody WTF-ed. The way they depicted the murders in the drama was very perturbing so much so that I had to look away. Damn. I guess I've always known that there are sick people in this world, but it's one thing to know, it's another to know it really happened. Bloody hell.

Director Clint Eastwood casted Angeline Jolie because she had the "look" for that period of time. I don't know about that but I think she did a good job. I've never really watched any of her movies, so I was pleasantly surprised she could act so convincingly. I felt her plight, I cursed at her mistreatment and I wondered aloud how she could stay so strong after all she's been through.

Other notable characters inlude Eddie Alderson's "Sanford Clark" and Jason Butler Harner's "Gordon Northcott" who were the driving force behind the more disturbing parts of the show. Also John Malkovich's "Reverend Briegleb", but not so much because of his character in the show but more because every time he speaks in that accent of his, I am unwittingly reminded of his "Pascal Sauvage" in Johnny English. Haha.

The verdict:

Poignant yet disturbing. But, it wasn't slow-moving, at least for me. I got so involved in the show (cursing, slamming the table, crying) so it moved along at a good pace for me. Haha. The storyline was engaging and easy to follow, the script simple. Plus, I like true stories, it gives a realistic ring to it which I find so captivating. So go watch it people!

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is a love story.. and so much more. But basically, everything stems from Jamal's (Dev Patel) love for Latika (Freida Pinto) and his journey to reuniting with her.

I saw the poster for the first time in the tube station but it wasn't the dramatic-looking one above, it was this one:

I remember telling Charles how it looks like a chick flick and the girl looked like Eva Longoria from a glance. Huh. Imagine a chick flick starring an Eva Longoria lookalike that has won a crazy number of awards.. Tell me that doesn't pique your interest.

Of course, this is no chick flick and Freida Pinto doesn't look like Eva Longoria much after all.

Jamal is a contestant on India's version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" *cue theme song* and he's down to the last question, you know, the one that's possibly going to turn him into a millionaire overnight. Now, a million is A LOT of money and when a "slumdog" (street child from the slums of India) is that close to winning that sort of money, people start to question his credibility. He's captured and forced to tell of how he really got that far i.e. did he cheat? Jamal tells his story from start to finish and (almost unbelievingly, at times) explains why he has an answer for every question given to him that night.

Aside from it being an almost-cheesy love story, I think it has to do with street smarts and how life is the greatest teacher you can get. To a city girl like me, it showed me, in a more vivid manner, what life was like "on the other side" when things don't really go as great. Made me realise that while technology is evolving so quickly that we can have a handphone that identifies music just by listening to it, we still have communities that don't even know what a handphone is, that still exist with brutality and inhumanity. We may have come a long way, but sometimes it seems like human evolution is a cycle instead of the chain that it should be.

Most of the actors and actresses are relatively new to the big screen, so I'm guessing this is their first big break. The performed adequately well, nothing to shout about. Everyone portrayed their character the way they should, although I did not really enjoy Latika's character, but then again, she didn't get that many scenes. Worthy mention: the child stars, the kids who played Jamal, Salim and Latika as kids - wow.

I'm not too sure if this is a true story. I don't think it is. But it's based on a novel (Q&A by Vikas Swarup) which my mom is reading now and I'm going to steal from her when I go home. :D

The verdict: Yes go and watch it and see what the hype is all about! Some people have said that they don't understand what the hype is about, but I, for one, enjoyed the fast-paced movie from the very beginning right down to the cheesy credit roll. Some parts may seem a little too-good-to-be-true but well, don't be such a cynic. Don't watch it because it won lots of awards (OK maybe watch it because of that too) but watch it because it's a poignant show with a simple message.

And Dev Patel is kind of cute in a nerdy way. He's only 19 btw.

YOU KNOW WHAT, the night the BAFTAs were held, my friends and I passed by freakin BAFTA and saw so many people there but didn't stop to look because we didn't know the BAFTAs were on that night and uh we were kind of hungry la we haven't had dinner. But OMAGA imagine if we got to catch a glimpse of Brangelina or Dev Patel or Kate Winslet! Which we didn't. Shucks :(

Max Payne

quite an underrated movie too in my opinion... i thought it deserved a bit more credit than it received... gross over 150million in the box office which isnt tht good since its such a famous game...

the story is about Max Payne (Wahlberg) who is trying to find the killer of his wife n baby daughter... he eventually finds new clues n leads which led him to the company his wife was working for... a pharmaceutical company which produced some serum for soldiers tht'll enhance their confidence n stuff like tht... soon they get addict'd to it... those tht can handle it will fill damn powerful but those who cant, they hallusinate n then die... so the wife was part of the group tht created this n so was kill'd to wipe any evidence away... Payne eventually finds out who kill'd his family...

the story is pretty simple n straight 4ward... the good thing bout this movie is the dark or fear element in it tht made TDK so freaking good... this movie has it too n it was fitting for the character bcos Max Payne is like a dark person who's trying to solve a case... the character is very intense too... the action scenes were great... the slow-motion effect was well used in the scenes the used it on... adds tht drama n suspense to the film... the problem with the film is definitely the draggyness... felt like the movie just wont end... a bit too quiet for an action movie... it was draggy n quiet, not really good... to compensate tht, it wasnt all tht predictable... a surprise to me was when Payne himself took the drug... but yea, unpredictability is good sometimes... CGI was good too... especially with the angels n all... very cool n adds a abit of fantasy to the film... fantasy being when they hallusinate lah...

so yea, this movie is actually pretty awesome to watch... i give it a 6/10 again... u must have a wee bit of patience if u wanna watch this movie but i recommend...

How To Lose Friends and Alienate People

this isnt a typical Simon Pegg movie in my opinion... Simon pegg movies r a bit whackier but this is a really kinda realistic i think...

its about this guy Sidney Young (Pegg) who is very into the entertainment industry... he had his own magazine company which was falling into pieces n thts when Clayton Harding (Bridges) came in n hired him as a writer... thts oso when he meets Alison (Dunst) n Sophie Maes (Fox)... he soon realizes tht working in a big magazine firm isnt as simple as it is... he thought he could just go in n start writing but when he realizes tht if he wan'd to write, he must give a draft copy to the fella he's writing about so tht it can be edit'd... tht tick'd him off alot... but eventually he made a decision to allow them to edit it in return he gets to write a piece which shot him to stardom amongst the celebrities... of course, in the process he falls in love with Alison lah... u'll just have to watch the ending by yrself...

so the movie is pretty funny n good... like i said, its not exactly a Simon pegg movie but still it was a good movie... teaches a bit about working in the media world... Pegg's character, Sidney, i think is very determined n holds his claims... cant remember the word... anyways... the comedic scenes were good but a bit hard to get sometimes... mayB its the English thing or mayB i just don understand... oh, n i thought Kirsten Dunst did a good job in this film... i don noe y ppl don like her... i think she's good n chun oso... Megan Fox in the film is so different from Transformers... in this film she's like some dumb actress... but this shows her versatility man...

the bad points... i thought it was too long, 110mins... it was a bit draggy starting from the middle... the way Sidney n Alison fell in love a bit too simple... yea... but the way it end'd was pretty good... the way he wins her... not too bad... quite ocay... so the romantic scene wasnt tht bad... comedy was good... realistic element, pretty real too... overall i give it a 6.2/10... well, u can watch but i wouldnt complain if u didnt...

Hitman

1 of the move underrated action film if u ask me... didnt even pass 100million in the box office... i think it deserves more credit... even IMDb rate it a 6.3/10 which i think its fair... anyways...

this movie is adapt'd from the super famous game, Hitman... in the movie, Agent 47 (Olyphant) was assign'd to kill the Russian PM... when he kills the real PM alredy, the fake 1 took over as PM... then the fella who hired 47 hired other assassins to kill 47... n so 47 went on a mission to find out the deal about all this... along the way he meets Nika (Kurylenko), a super hot girl... hehe... so along the mission he plans everything from fooling the cops to fooling the fake PM to everything... he plan'd out how he was gonna kill the fella who wans him dead... in the end he gets caught by the Interpol who has been after him for the pass 3 years... but of course he has contacts with the CIA n so the CIA officer help'd him escape...

the movie is very awesome... i thought Timothy Olyphant as 47 was excellent... he has all the features to pull of the agent look... plus the suite enhances his style n confidence n all lah... some parts in the movie was a bit funny as well, especially the parts with Nika in it... she's a bit annoying but 47 has a soft spot for her of course n is all out to protect her from a distance... how cool... i think the slight downfall of the movie is the cast... there werent any stars to begin with... Timothy Olyphant to me was an unknown until i saw this movie...

but yea, the action scenes did alot to compensate on the other flaws of the movies lah... i guess the one of the flaws is tht like Journey To The Center of The Earth, it was a bit predictable... predictable as in u noe which scene is gonna come nxt... but honestly, i thought Timothy Olyphant did an awesome job as 47... cool, stylish, confident, skill'd, control'd... n the guns... guns always get me excited... i more thing i admire about the character is tht he's not a womaniser n oso don get seduced easily... awesomely awesome... its like, u're not for me, get lost...

anyways... i give it 6/10... i recommend it only if u like action movies... this is good...

Journey To The Center of The Earth

This is a decent movie... did pretty well in the box office as well... raked in over 250 million n for this kind of movie its damn good alredy...

the story is about Trevor (Fraser) n his nephew, Sean (Hutcherson) on a journey to find the Center of the earth... so their adventure brings them to Iceland where they met up with this girl, Hannah (Briem) who's a mountain guide n who's father was another mad scientist 2gether with Trevor's bro (another scientist) tried to find the center... Trevor's bro actually did find it but died cos he couldnt make his way out... so Trevor, Sean n Hannah travels into the center, going thru obstacles n eventually finding it... then after tht they had to make their way out... n in the end of course they managed to lah, with the usual other obstacles tht r preventing them...

so yea, the movie is a good movie... the CGI wasnt the best tho... didnt feel realistic... but its ocay nonetheless... the starting of the movie was pretty fast... like within the 1st 10mins they alredy show Trevor discovering his bro's work... wat else... this movie has lots of suspense in it if u ask me... n 2gether with the background music, just adds to the thrill... then there's the few moments of romance oso of course, between Hannah n Trevor...

1 thing bout the movie i thought was a bit boring was the expectations... the movie was a bit too typical for my liking... it was very predictable... but then again, this kind of movie, how much different can u get lah... but 1 good thing bout the movie tho is tht it didnt pass the 90min mark... it was only 82mins n thts good for this kind of movie... 1 small but insignificant thing bout the movie is tht, their survival was all written in the storybook itself... all they had to do was read the book... so yea, tht means some1 else alredy been there if not they wouldnt noe how to write the book rite???... so yea, tht made me think alot lah... so tht was interesting...

overall, i give it a 6.2/10 lah... i think its a fair rating... even IMDb gave it 6/10... i would recommend cos its adventurous n with Brendan Fraser there's bound to be a bit of lame comedic scenes...

RocknRolla

Now this is a really really REALLY awesome movie... is so awesome tht watching it once is not enough...

the film, well, i really don noe how to type out a synopsis really... check IMDb out... its a movie tht is always catching 1 another... this fella tries to catch this while another tries to catch the same thing simultaneously the 1 being catch'd is trying to catch another thing... the film is not like tht but thts just an example of how complicated the movie is... but its really good n after awhile u see the whole picture... but yea, IMDb has a good synopsis...

so i'll just jump straight to the good points... GERALD BUTLER... thts alredy 1 good point... the fella was awesome in the movie... his character is damn funny n cool at the same time... n with thr accent, nothing can go wrong... the othe cast members were oso very good if i may add... i thought Mark Strong's character, Archie was very cool n in control n noes wat he's doing... the movie is damn fast paced n thts y i like it... its a typical British action movie if u ask me n its really good... Guy Ritchie, didnt noe he was tht good... the humour in the film was oso very funny... there's this gay scene between Butler's character n 1 of his frens, Bob (Tom Hardy)... tht was by far the funniest if u ask me...

another good thing bout this film is the script... bcos u have to listen everything they say to understand wats going on, u can listen to the script n u'll think its awesome... a lot of emotions in it if u ask me... the foul words only made it more intense n dramatic... this is a typical guys film man... damn good... n i think there's a 2nd movie coming out too... oh yea, 1 more thing, there's this element of darkness in the movie which makes it alot better... i don noe how to explain lah... this element of darkness u can see it in TDK n a lot of recent films oso... n it works... it makes the movie nicer to watch... like got this air of thriller, suspense n all... very nice...

this movie i give it a 7.8/10... it is tht good... trust me... WATCH IT!!!... i totally recommend it... watch it twice in fact... its damn awesome... i don usually praise a movie this much but this 1 deserves it... its nice...

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

the sequel to Madagascar... this is a good animated film as well... definitely better than the 1st... n got funnier characters...

ocay so the story is the guys r trying to leave Madagascar with a plane the Penguins build... after a short while in the air, they crash land'd in Africa... in Africa, they discover a whole lot more about themselves n the others who're same as them... Alex (Stiller) found his parents again, Marty (Rock) found the other zebras, same goes for Melman (Schwimmer) n Gloria (Pinkett Smith)... Alex then tries to claim the throne as the king bcos he's father, Zuba (the late Bernie Mac) was getting old n at the same time, Makunga (Baldwin) was trying to take the throne as well... after failing to take the throne, Alex was cast'd out by Makunga who claim'd it...

in the middle of the story they land start'd to run out of water so Alex in an attempt to restore his pride sets out to unblock the river... he went with Marty n eventually gets into trouble as usual... while all this were happening, Melman was gonna commit suicide bcos he thought he was gonna die of some disease... he oso confess'd his love for Gloria... at the end of the movie, all was well, the water in the land was restored n Melman n Gloria were 2gether...

overall, the movie was good... they didnt go to far away from the 1st installment in a sense tht it was just as good as the 1st 1... the comedy was funny n the cast, awesome cast i tell u... Ben Stiller, Chris Rock (there's a new Adam Sandler movie coming out in 2010 tht stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Rob Schneider n David Spade... EFFING AWESOME!!!), Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, Bernie Mac, Alec Baldwin, Sasha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer... awesome cast i tell u... Sasha Baron Cohen as usual is damn funny as King Julien... n then there's Will.i.am as Moto Moto... awesome i tell u... i mean, need i say more...

i give it a 7/10 oso... definitely 1 i would recommend to watch... tht is if u like lame jokes...

Yes Man

Ocay so this movie was pretty awesome... 1 of Jim Carrey's nicer films... but then again, i barely watch Jim Carrey's films but according to IMDb, he has a lot of good movies, all of which were rated 6 n above... so thts kinda good... go check it out...

anyways, so this movie is about Carl (Carrey) who always says no to everything, even his best fren's engagement party... then 1 day he decided to go to a seminar tht encourages u to say YES... n after tht seminar, he start'd saying YES to everything... at 1st he's damn reluctant to say but eventually when he realizes his life is bcoming better n funner, he bcomes happier as well... along the way he meets Allison (Deschanel) n they fall in love...

2wards the middle of the movie he begins to panic when he thought he was cursed n if he said no, something bad would happen to him... eventually Allison realizes tht he is forced to say yes n then leaves him lah... after he met with the speaker at the seminar, he told Carl tht there isnt any curse or wat not... so then he tries to get Allison back n in the end of course he gets her back lah...

this movie doesnt have much fault lah... except mayB the beginning of the movie was a little slow... but after tht it got better bcos of the comedic scenes... those were really good... but i thought the romantic scenes were kinda good oso... but again, i didnt think the ending was all tht... it was definitely better than My Best friend's Girl lah... way better n i could feel the love n all but something was still missing lah... i don noe... but it was good... i like the cast a lot... Jim Carrey is himself lah, nvr change wan, always doing funny faces... then there's Bradley Cooper who plays Carl's best fren... i don noe y but i kinda like Bradley Cooper... i think he's a cool actor... i like the roles he play... except in Wedding Crashers lah... but yea, i think he's a good actor... n then there Zooey Deschanel who's not too bad an actress herself...

yea, this movie is a good movie... lot of laughs... n they didnt exceed 1hour 45mins... they only add'd an xtra 14mins to the film which is ocay bcos its a good n funny film... i give it a 7/10... i recommend too...
